4 Ways to Help Your Kids Brush Their Teeth Regularly

Posted by Hallmark Dental Group on Feb 8 2022, 07:12 AM

While brushing is the most important and probably the easiest way to maintain good oral hygiene, it could be a task to get your child to brush regularly. However, brushing regularly is very important given their eating habits. Sticky, soft foods such as candy sit on the teeth for longer and can cause tooth damage and decay.

Our experienced dentists at Hallmark Dental Group in St. George, Utah, specialize in all kinds of dental procedures and treatments and can help your child maintain good oral health.

How to Get Kids to Brush Regularly?

Here are some quick tips to ensure your kid is aware of the importance of good oral health and brushes regularly:

  • Start Early

From an early age, teach your child about the importance of keeping their teeth and mouth clean. They must be told how important it is to get rid of the bacteria in the mouth and how not doing so could harm their oral health. An easy way is to start by telling them the basics of oral hygiene and how brushing promotes good-looking shiny white teeth and fresh breath.

  • Do It Together

You can start by showing them how you brush your teeth first thing in the morning, and before you go to bed. Young children like imitating their parents, and this could be a great way to get them into a routine. If you have more than one child in the family, you can make brushing a group activity. Given the varying schedules, it may not be feasible every single day, but try to do it a few days a week.

  • Play Along

Since most kids take about three minutes to brush their teeth, play a song of their choice and get them to brush along with the song. If they have siblings who can be partners, even better.  Alternatively, you could engage them in a small game as they are brushing.

  • Invest in Kids’ Oral Hygiene Products

Invest in the toothbrushes and toothpaste of your kid’s choice. With so many colorful products available on the market, take them shopping for dental products. Let them pick a toy or character of their choice and enjoy their brushing time. It could become a time they spend with that character.

Once brushing twice a day becomes a habit, kids can do it independently. The challenge is to get there. With these tips, your kid is sure to take up brushing as a fun and must-do activity.
