  • A child's overall health improves if they have healthy teeth. This enables them to eat and talk as normal. As the child grows, good oral care is recommended to reinforce good dental habits. When the child is not provided with good oral care, they become prone to infection, teeth problems, or other diseases.

Types of Pediatric Dental Treatments

Pediatric dentistry includes a wide range of treatments and services such as the following:

  • Cleanings and preventive care
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Fillings
  • Sealant application
  • Bonding
  • Extractions
  • Crown placement

Pediatric Dental Care for the Child

A dentist provides the necessary treatments to maintain a child's dental health. Parents should bring their kids to the dentist every six months. Regular checkups help the doctors to analyze whether the child's brushing habits are effective or not. The dentist can also search for tooth decay, inflammation, or any hidden cavities.

Dental X-rays are taken for diagnosing cavities that are hard to see and other issues with children’s teeth that may be missed during a visual inspection. Dentists use lead aprons as a protective measure and digital x-rays that reduce the amount of exposure time.

Regular cleaning and fluoride treatment could also be provided to the child.

The Role of Parents in the Childs' Dental Care

It is important to teach your child good oral hygiene practices that can help their long-term oral health.

  • Use Fluoride-Based Toothpaste

The child is to be provided with fluoride varnish or cleaning on their teeth. Make sure that the child doesn't swallow fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash.

  • Encourage Brushing and Flossing

The child should be given a soft and small toothbrush.  Ensure their teeth are cleaned twice a day properly. Toothpaste with fluoride can be used when they are old enough to spit out the toothpaste. Parents must also show their children how to floss their teeth and ensure they do it at least once a day.

  • Provide Proper Diet

The child must be offered proper and healthy food choices. Reduce the intake of sugary foods, soda, and sweetened drinks. It is important to drink water between meals and make sure that they brush their teeth after each meal.
