Dental Hygiene Saint George, UT

At Hallmark Dental Group, we encourage our patients to follow preventative dental care tips at home. The care you give to your smile every day matters a lot. It is necessary to have a good dental hygiene routine at home. This way, you can get rid of a number of dental conditions such as tooth decay and gum disease.

In order to follow a healthy dental routine, follow these steps below:

Brush your teeth at least twice a day.

Always keep in mind to brush your teeth in the morning and at night. It would be better if you can brush between meals, as this could help in rinsing off harmful bacteria and food particles. It is recommended to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a toothpaste containing fluoride.

Floss at least once a day.

Remember to floss every day to get rid of the food debris or plaque stuck between your teeth. It would be best if you floss your teeth before going to bed. Flossing is as much important as brushing. Your toothbrush cannot reach and clean all parts of your mouth, so always do floss at least once a day.

Consume a balanced diet.

Your diet plays a significant role in maintaining your health all your life, which also includes the health of your teeth. It is necessary to ensure you get the recommended amount of essential vitamins and minerals every day. Limit consumption of too much sugary or acidic foods, as they might end up affecting your oral and overall health. After eating any sugary or acidic foods, make sure to rinse your mouth with water to limit its effects.

Go for a regular dental visit.

It is recommended to go for a dental visit at least once every six months. Getting your teeth professionally cleaned is an important part of maintenance because daily flossing and brushing can also miss certain areas of your mouth. Do not skip your dental visit, as it can cause certain consequences to your oral health, which can later lead to more invasive and expensive treatments in the future.

Sometimes a deeper cleaning is needed

A Note from Joni; Head Hygienist at Hallmark Dental Group

Deep dental cleanings are similar to spring cleaning your home.  It is a deep cleaning that reaches every nook and cranny!  No matter how well you clean your teeth on your own, there are areas of your mouth that can only be seen and reached by a professional. That is where I come in.  Removing these hidden deposits create an environment for healing.  Removing deposits from the sides of your teeth reduces inflammation (bleeding gums), like getting a sliver out of your finger.  Dental cleanings reduce bacteria in your mouth, which is the number one cause of bad breath. Dental cleanings also reduce your risk of bone loss, a.k.a. periodontal disease. Reduced plaque and bacteria in your mouth also helps your immune system ward off heart disease and any potential risk of getting a stroke.
